ABOUT DANNY MAYBERRY

I'm Danny, a former Navy Corpsmen with three combat deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq.

I was honored to serve our nation in the military, especially during a time of war. But like most service members, I know the challenges and sacrifices we had to make to protect our country and those we love.

Upon returning home, I was diagnosed with PTSD.

Transitioning out of the military was an incredibly difficult decision for me, as my time as a Doc was nothing short of amazing. I know what it’s like to hide behind a smile  when deep down, we’re struggling.

Still, life after service appeared to be going well.

I got married, received my bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and started a business. But depressive thoughts persisted, and after nearly taking my own life, I finally found the courage to ask for help.

Still, life after service appeared to be going well.

I got married, received my bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and started a business. But depressive thoughts persisted, and after nearly taking my own life, I finally found the courage to ask for help.

With the support of my loving wife, I was able to take those first steps towards healing.

I learned a new way of managing my life.

Through perseverance and rediscovering my faith, I integrated positive habits into my daily routine and reconnected with the veteran community. As I experienced success and regained a sense of purpose, walking became a form of therapy for me. And through this newfound strength, Leigh Anne and I embarked on incredible journeys – from hiking in the breathtaking Alps to exploring ancient wonders in Egypt.

The 1 Mile 1 Veteran podcast was born out of this shared experience.

It is a journey that transcends individual stories to connect with others who have faced similar struggles. We understand the power of empathy and connection, because we have walked those same painful miles. Our aim is simple yet profound: to let veterans across the world know that they are not alone in their battles.
